Dervish will celebrate their official 21st anniversary with a spectacular concert at Sligo Live Sessions on Sunday October 24th.

DERVISH celebrate 21 years in the music industry and the Official Birthday Party will take place at SLIGO LIVE SESSIONS where Dervish fans from around the world will travel to this event which takes place on October Bank Holiday Weekend. MOYA BRENNAN and her regular collaborator, Cormac De Barra will guest with Dervish on their 21st Birthday Celebrations at Sligo Live Sessions on 24th October 2010.  Dervish are delighted Moya is joining them for this special homecoming concert in Sligo’s Radisson Hotel.  KEVIN BURKE and TRIONA NI DHOMHNAILL are among the hosts of other guests in what promises to be a very exciting evening.  Tickets €25 are available from

In keeping with Sligo Live Sessions’ policy of offering top value music at very realistic prices, a limited number of Weekend Tickets to all festival performances and events are on sale at the amazing early bird value of €75.00 per ticket. DERVISH’s 21 year journey has taken them to thousands of venues in over 30 countries; sharing festival bills with everyone from Beck to James Brown and from Neil Young to Iron Maiden; playing tunes at the Great Wall of China, Niagara Falls, the Grand Canyon and the Wailling Wall and playing to an audience of 240,000 people at the biggest rock music festival in the world "Rock in Rio."  As part of their 21st Celebrations they have just released their new Live CD & DVD “FROM STAGE TO STAGE”, which was launched in May from a session in the band’s hometown of Sligo to an on-line audience of over 30,000 viewers.

DERVISH, whose members include Cathy Jordan, Liam Kelly, Shane Mitchell, Brian McDonagh, Tom Morrow and Michael Holmes have chronicled their musical journey in 11 CDs and 2 DVDs.  Over the years they have received many awards, but their proudest moment has to be when Sligo City Council bestowed upon them the Freedom of the City of Sligo for their contribution to the region’s vibrant artistic culture. A DERVISH performance ranges from powerful and energetic dance tunes to sublime interpretations of Irish songs and airs with vocals, fiddle, flute, accordion, bodhran, mandola and bouzouki.  Interwoven with Cathy Jordan’s beguiling voice and engaging stage presence, an evening with DERVISH is filled with enough warmth, conviviality and inspiration.

MOYA BRENNAN is widely regarded as the First Lady of Celtic Music.   She began her singing career when her family formed Clannad in 1970.  She is a Grammy award winning singer songwriter.  Moya Brennan and Clannad sent tremors through the world music.  With Harry’s Game they took Irish melodies to places they had never been before.  Top of the Pops, major record contracts, world tours, Ivor Novello and BAFTA awards plus a Grammy award.  When an artist’s career can often be measured in months, hers spans decades.  The power of her whispered tones and the beauty of her music touch the soul.

CORMAC De BARRA is a regular collaborator with Moya and member of her band and of Clannad. His sensitive and highly melodic harp playing has been sought after by artists as diverse as Julie Feeney, Brian Kennedy  and  Hazel O’Connor. He also presents the acclaimed TG4 arts programme, Imeall.

KEVIN BURKE is London born from a Sligo family and has been playing fiddle since he was seven years old.  He has performed since the 70s with Christy Moore, Arlo Guthre and the Bothy Band and later as a solo artist, and with Patrick Street, delighting audiences across Europe and the US where he now resides in Portland, Oregon.  “Burke’s fiddling is one of the high spots of the current Irish musical scene” – The Irish Times.

TRIONA NI DHOMHNAILL is from a famous family of singers and musicians and is famed for her work with traditional Irish groups including The Bothy Band and Scara Brae.   When The Bothy’s disbanded, Ni Dhomhnaill assembled a new band of North American musicians entitled Touchstone and also played with Relativity and Nightnoise, al;ways innovating and exploring musical forms.
